Smile Goldfish Help!

Hi, Im new and i know theres already a thread, but i really need help!!
So im saving up my pocket money (IM 12!!!) for a fishtank, and my dad said go for a godlfish to start off with, he has always said (he used to own tropical when he was younger!) to go with a fish Tank 5 X the size of a fullgrown goldfish (or full grown whatever you decide to go with!!!)

Now I would like to get more than one, 2 or three, but im unsure on what size i should be aiming for to keep 2 or three in, 18 inch? thats what my dad said, but im wondering if this is ok or should i up size?

The advice is for fancy goldfish 20 gal for the first and 10 gal for each one after that. With comets being larger and faster the ratios go even further up and is best left to ponds or a very big tank.

Also, don't believe the myth that fish grow to the size of the tank. True, if you get them very young and keep them in a ten gallon they will stay about 5 inches (which is still too big), but what is actually happening is that their growth is stunted. Their internal organs wont have enough room and the fish will not live a full life and they won't be as healthy. If you really want goldfish, get at least a 20 gallon, make sure its 20 long and not 20 tall. long gives the fish more back and forth swimming room. Also, if your not set on goldies, there are many fishes that are just as easy to keep. Convicts are very easy to keep, but are aggressive, need a lot of room, and need 80 degree water. Once you find out what size tank you want, you can find out the right fish to go in it. Or you can find out what fish you want, and get the tank sized accordingly. This may sound like a ton of information to digest, but its a ton of fun! Welcome to the hobby!

Is your heart set on goldfish? They're really big and messy fish, and a tank big enough to keep 2 or 3 of them is going to cost a lot of money! If you really want goldfish, I'd get a tank maybe 45 or 50 gallons. But if you're open to other options, there are lots of great fish that don't get nearly so big and are just as easy to keep as a goldfish is. A betta fish or a dwarf gourami would be perfectly happy in a 5-gallon tank, and they're very easy to take care of.
