I added this guy to my 100g Cichlid tank about 10 days ago. I noticed yesterday his tail and dorsal fins were damaged/chewed.
I was able to net him today and he is now alone in my 20g. For damaged fins like he has I'm thinking of adding some Melafix to speed up the healing. Is this what I should use or is their something else I should try? Below is a summary of this fish and his odd behaviors I posted on another forum. I can't say the same for my eclipse catfish (not pictured). He was added the same day as the featherfin catfish. When the eclipse was first placed in the tank he swam back and forth and all around the whole tank. Then I found him motionless, standing on his head in a corner. This was followed by swimming in a vertical circle around and around the same spot on my large holy rock. My daughter counted 200 orbits once before losing count. This wierd manic-depressive behavior lasted three days The eclipse then settled down and spent most of the day hidden under a well camouflaged flower pot. I thought he finally settled in, until last night. I found him back in his corner, upside down. Something is obviously picking on the poor guy. His tail fin is ragged as is his dorsal fin. I don't think it is one of the Mbuna, he is just so different from them and they don't even seem to notice my catfish. I'm thinking the bully maybe the Leporinus. He likes the bottom of the tank by the flower pot and also has teeth I read somewhere. So anyway I will be setting up my 20g today and get the bi-polar catfish out of the 100g and let him heal. If he makes it I'll take him to my local LFS and trade him in.
