The day before yesterday,I placed a small slice of zuc in the tank for the plecs, and today all that was left was the outer shell.I didnt boil it,these guys are pretty good at chewing it down, and it lasts a little longer.anyhow, how often should I give them one? They have totally cleared every sign of green algae and the brown algae on the glass, and most of the hairy brown stuff as well. They move alot, lol.Driftwood has never looked so good.
Should I give them the zuch once a week, or more often?I have the rest already sliced and in the freezer.Should I thaw it for them before placing in the tank or does that even matter?

I always fed it twice a week and algae tabs a couple times a week. I would let it thaw before putting it into tank or else it just floats. After it thaws it will sink on its own most of the time.

I was wondering about this process (Sorry to hijack) but, I read to feed the pleco green beans so i threw one in there yesterday. It's still there, so will my pleco just KNOW to eat it? or will it take him a while? I tried to take the lil guy back to the store but she wouldnt take him back. So i figured i'd keep him til he was too big and either rehome him to my moms pond or find him another suitable home. but anyway, how can i get him to eat the veggies i put in there?

I have read some people stick a fork in it to make it sink.
Dont worry about hijacking,Its all good to know stuff and helpful for others as well as me.Never knew about green beans, ill try that one day too. Susan,do you feed carrots too? What other veggies will they like? My macs seem to enjoy algae wafers too haha.

They don't eat carrots to much. guess its just to hard or they don't like the flavor. I feed mine zuchinni, sweet potatoe, some will eat canned green beans but always use the kind that contains no salt. I also feed brocolli stems. Some people will feed fruits but that can mess a tank up real fast.
As with any pleco they have to find the food and taste it. Don't leave it in more than 12 hours if they aren't eating it. Just keep trying every couple of days and it will happen. And basically if they aren't used to it put it in after lights are out.

Great! I'll keep trying. I'm going to pick up a zuchini to try on him too. How quickly will he grow susan? I'm hoping to keep him in the tank until spring and then put him in my mom's pond when the weather warms up again, i'm hoping he isnt going to get huge fast lol I'm assuming a 500 gallon pond with only 6 goldfish in it atm would be an alright place for a plec?

The pond would be a great place for him. They will grow fairly fast the first year, but will slow down some. If you get the 29 put him in that, it will be a lot better than a 10
