Post feeding plecos

Hey, I have a pleco in a 55- gallon tank with 2 goldfish and I'm having trouble feeding him. The goldfish just scare him away from the algae wafers when I put them in. for the past few days he has been floating upside down at the top but then he starts sucking on the wall again. What do I do?

You could try to drop them in by him and feed the goldfish on the opposite side of the tank at the same time. That's how I feed my dwarf frog when the tropicals are being jerks.

I use to have a Pleco that skimmed the surface of the water and he ate the same TetraMin flakes as the rest of the fish. If your worried about the Pleco not getting enough vegetable matter you could buy some flakes with a lot of algae in it and then, while the goldfish are busy with the algae tabs, the Pleco could get some of the flakes.

Goldfish are very agressive veggie feeders and should not be in the same tank as a Pleco. Also Goldfish are not Tropical fish but temperant ones. No need to make a choice, Plecos or Goldfish.

Plecos and goldfish are not really ideal tankmates for a variety of reasons.

It might help to feed at night when the lights are off, goldfish should be sleepy then. Chunks of veg might help, goldfish will pick at them but not eat them all so there will be some left for the pleco.

I've drilled a hole thru a stainless steel fork, attached a length of fish-line, spear the cuke/squash and drop it in.. Not all the fishing line of course. Bill in Va.

I use a large safety pin on a string. That's so I can put the Zucchini where I want it.

BTW
Zucchini is better than Cuke. More vitamins and such. Also Romaine lettuce is better than Ice berg.

if you boil the zucchini or cucumber for a few minutes it'll sink, i just stick mine with a fork. Feeding with the lights out will help too...as will rehoming the goldies for better suited tank mates
