I have 3 albino cories, 1 rather large guy named Boss hog who was put in the tank by my grandson, and 3 smaller striped cories. Not sure what they are but my question is - I have read that different cories will only swim with their own. I've noticed the albinos stay together but, will they all swim together or do I need to find boss hog a few friends.

Yup they do segregate themselves, I got 7 different species of corydora and they never mix, unless its spawn time then all the males go nuts.

Thanks for the quick replies. I guess I will find the Boss a friend if I can figure out what kind he is. Process of elimination. I know he's not albino, not striped, kinda tan and greenish? Anyway, appreciate you guys advice. (I have 4 grands too, the oldest is 12 -he was the previous owner of the Boss.)

Hello Thumbs. There are more than 100 species of "Cory" catfish. I have several large tanks and have several different varieties in each tank. Your post reads like you have a Corydora "arcuatus", also called "The Skunk Catfish" because of the stripes.
I have difference species, but they all seem to swim together. They're actually most active at night. The best time to feed them is after the lights go out in the tank. That way, they get their share of the food while the other fish are in their "sleep mode". With the exception of the Albino Corries, most live quite a long time. I have some Paleatus Corydoras that I've had in different tanks for more than four years. They're just a very peaceful fish and have been a very good addition to my Fancy Guppy tanks. BBradbury

I've got albinos that are 5 years old and some peppers that are 9 years old. There are many species of cories that have stripes. 3 lines that are often confused with julies is another.

I'm going to make an effort to get a picture of these guys tomorrow and maybe you all can help with the ID. Boss Hog must be going on 4 or 5 years now. He's seen them come and go. What does everyone feed their cories?
And a 28 yr. old grandkid. WOW. and congrats. I'm in the process of cycling a 10 gal. using a sponge filter and some small pebbles from an established tank. I haven't put any fish in it, just a little fish food but I guess I should put a fish in to help. No amonia, like it's already cycled without cycling. Might be the old sponge. It's been over a week and no spikes. Can it be ready this fast? |

I feed my cories earth worm pellets, algae wafers with meat, bloodworms (which are their favorites) when I can get to the store I buy some frozen shrimp and chop that up for them.

The only way I can accomplish this miracle of being a great granddad. I would have to live to be 100 years old. Forget it! I will never make, nor do I want to. |
