Default Corydoras question .

Hi guys,

i am looking for tankmates for our 7 Neon Tetras & 1 Apple Snail in a 54 litre tank.

I was thinking to get Corydoras , they dont get too big when grow up.
I know you cant keep just one,so i wanted to ask if it would be ok to mix them ? Can i get 2 x Julii , 2 x Albino & 2 x Peppered instead of getting 6 of the same kind ?

Thank you

It's always best to keep to one species as they prefer to be with their own kind. Peppered cories are not a good option for the size of your tank, I have some that are almost 3 inches each. Of the other 2, I would advise just one species and no more than 4 total.

Corys are very social creatures and it is much better to have 6 of one species than 3 of 3 different species. Some Corys, like my Skunk Corys, are always together. Others, like the Green Cory and Pigmy Cory, are much more independent.

Does the size matter ?
I mean in 15 gal tank you cant mix them up but in 30 gal you can ?
As long as its not overstocked,it shouldnt matter ,they dont get very big, only like 5-6 cm, or am i missing something here ?

Yes because the fact that most cories will get 6 to 8 cm unless you are talking about pygmy, pandas or hasbrosus which are smaller species. My peppers are about 7.6 cm, the albinos are slightly smaller. All cories need at least 3 to 4 of its own kind as they are social creatures and prefer their own kind.

I have close to 100 cories in my 220 and some peppered in my 55 that is close to 8 years old.

Some species come in albino forms. As long as they are the same species you could mix albino with the normal color ones and they will school together.

I was going to go with 6 Panda Corys (they are just so friggin' cute, and they stay smaller than some of the other types), but I just discovered the Julii Cory and I am in love! I got 3 tonight (getting 3 more on Friday and the last 2 in a few weeks). I LOVE them! Sooooo cute and beautifully patterned!

Good to know that the different types won't school together... I had wondered about that... is there any reason why that is? They have the same body shape... and it's not like a Panda knows it's got panda bear markings and isn't spotted like a Peppered.... hmmm....

Be careful buying julies, they might end up being 3 line cories (Corydoras Trilineatus) as they look an awful lot alike.

Oooo, I just looked up the 2 different types online.... the lights are off at the moment, but I will check to be sure what they are in the morning. Is there much difference between the two kinds? (The three lines are gorgeous!)
