Default Bye Bye Otto (RIP)

My Tiger Oscar swallowed Otto whole, now he is choking it down, hope he gets indigestion. I tried to save the little guy, caught Oscar and tried to make (persuade) him to give poor Otto up, but he refused.

I hope I didn't kill Oscar, I was a little hard on him trying to pull Otto out of his mouth. I think he'll pull through, that is if he doesn't choke on Otto first. Oscar's aren't too bright, they would rather die then give up the food or share.

I think I know why he ate Otto and no it's not because he's an Oscar and Oscar's eat anything he can fit in his mouth. You see, Oscar and Otto have been getting along great for a long time, it was common place to see Oscar swim up to Otto and not pay him any mind.

It only happen after I recently introduced four live ghost shrimp into the tank. Oscar went bananas and ate every one of them. It was like someone turned on the monster switch. I think he got the live taste in him and now Otto was just another ghost shrimp to him. I believe had I not added the ghost shrimp, Otto would still be alive.

No more live food for Oscar, he's going on a flake and pellet only diet. That fish is grounded.

I know Oscar's and Otto's aren't suppose to be in the same tank but I knew my Otto and he was faster and smarter than Oscar. The taste of live food pushed Oscar over the edge and wore Otto down. He wasn't able to take him in one round though, otto made him work for it but in the end he didn't make it.

On the upside, there's no other fish small enough in the tank that Oscar can beat now, so that's good to know.

That's exactly why your oscar ate your otto. Sorry to hear about the loss of your fish, but honestly you were asking for trouble putting the two of them in the aquarium in the first place.

Honestly Im not surprised as an Oscar will eat any thing it can get into its mouth, I have had the chance to see real Oscars In nature when I went to the Amazon and I know they can be ferocious that's why I don't keep any, I just can't imagine having an Oscar Only Tank which in most cases is necessary for these fish.
