Default decided to breed bettas!

On deciding to breed bettas, i bought a female to place in with my male today. Once introduced i noticed that the male was swimming upto the female and flaring up at her. There is no fin nipping he is just chasing her around.I have floated some polystyrine for him to build his bubble nest.

What happens from here on in?

Thanks

Default Re: decided to breed bettas!

First off,you need to slow down. The pair need to be conditioned for two weeks before spawning.

You need to house the two beside each other and only let them see each other for a few minutes a day.Feed them well during the process, frozen and live foods about three times a day,and keep the water pristine. This will help the female produce healthy eggs, and the male will build up enough strength to care for the eggs and fry for the three days he is with them.Otherwise the female can have very unhealthy eggs which will lead to weak and deformed fry,and the male may not have the strength needed to care for them, either weakening him to the point he does not recover and dies or him just plain not wanting to spawn.

In this two weeks time you should be growing vinegar eels and microworms, and grindal worms for the fry to eat. Many will not tough powdered foods or even crushed flakes. Its not in their nature, they go for movement. If it doesnt move, its not food.
