Default tiger oscar

We recently had a storm in the north east eliminating power for 10 days killing off a lot of my fish and so I am currently rebuilding. Today I bought a juvenile tiger oscar and a chinese algae eater. The oscar seems shy and I do have several natural caves for him and the temp is at 75. Is this a hard fish to take care of? He's really pretty and all the ones that didn't die from the storm are more than a year now. I also have to be careful because my rainbow shark is getting big and super aggressive. Any suggestions?

None of your tanks are big enough for an oscar.

Oh I know I need a bigger tank for him. I am adding a 150 within the next month but this little guy is less than an inch and a half and only sharing with the chinese algae eater so I was told he'd be fine for a couple months.

Keep up the water changes and you should be fine. They can live for over 10 years. And you could keep 2-3 of them in a 150g

Just to give you an idea how long they can live.....I bought one in January of 2001 and I traded him to my LFS whom I have done business with for almost 40+ years. They have him right now in display tank as I just saw him yesterday. He is 11 yrs plus in age and about 9-10 inches long. Your upcoming 150 will be fine and the smaller tank with as small as he is will work short period, they grow fast and mine was not shy after a couple weeks, was actually very bold and my wife got attached to him bigtime when she would feed every now and then he would go crazy to see her, they definately have as much or more personality than any fish I know of out there.....they do recognize you when you come into room. I kept him in the den and I spend quite a bit of time in there anyway. Fun fish! Will be territorial!!! Good luck you will tame him down and see what I mean.
