I had finished my fishless cycle on a ten gallon and added a pair if Electric Blue Rams over a week ago... the plan was to add some harley rasboras and dwarf pygmy corys.
Yesterday I brought home a trio of small rasboras. This morning I found one dead rasbora, one live rasbora with most if his tail fin chewed off, and the third seems to have no damage. My two remaining rasboras are in a breeding net cage setup until healed and I rethink the accommodations. I have a cycled and established 26 gallon communityand tank that is lightly stocked if I was to move the rasboras. Should I attempt to reintroduce the rasboras n EBRs? Or are there other tank mates for my EBRs in light of this? Thanks in advance for any advice and recommendations. |

Not in a 10 gal, its actually to small for the rams. They need a 20 gal and then you can add harleys. The rams would also kill the pygmy cories.

I have a pair of EBRs in my community tank. I was initially apprehensive about adding them only because they are cichlids, but I'd read they were generally very peaceful. They are currently housed with wags, swordtails, a pair of gouramis and angels (most of which are much larger than the rams). So far I have had zero issues with them as they tend to be more reclusive than my other community fish. I don't have dwarf cories, but I do have a handful of albinos and green cories who seem much too bold to be bullied by any of my fish. Perhaps you could try introducing a larger cory than the pygmy variety?

Not in a 10 gal tank, its not big enough for any of the bigger cories.

A few days in the breeder net cage, took his edge off... at least for the time being. Even the fish with the torn up tail had been left alone for the last 2 days.

I wouldn't go less than a 20 gal for a pair, 30 gal would be better. They are peaceful for cichlids but a cichlid none the less. Need really soft water too...

EBR are Cichlids and as such are naturally agressive and territorial, especially on the bottom. They may also go after your Corys. Danios are fast enough so maybe your EBR's won't be able to catch them.
