Default single female convict tankmates

Hey all.

I have a single 3" female convict with about 15 .5" fry in a pretty heavily planted 29g tank.

Once the fry are at about 1" (or when water quality starts suffering) I'm going to re-home them, and was wondering what I should put in along with her.

I was thinking of a school of tiger barbs. From what I've read, female convicts aren't too dangerous as long as there are plenty of fish to spread the aggression around.

I'd also be interested in keeping other cichlids (ideally something more colorful), but I'm looking to get more than one or two more fish, so I'm not sure what would work with my tank size, or what would be able to stand up to the convict when she gets aggressive.

I'm using an Eheim 2213 for filtration.. the tank has been up for 3 months and I haven't even registered anything over .25ppm ammonia for more than a day, even though I have never vacuumed the gravel. The 3 large amazon swords and FAST growing bunches of wisteria seem to be keeping things pretty stable. I think I can add some significant stock without overwhelming the tank.

What do you guys suggest? Thanks in advance..

Well, being is you have a 29 gallon, I think 1 cichlid is pretty much all for you, unless you decide to go with a dwarf species. As for other fish, generally, and this differs in individual fish, a female is a little more docile then a male; not to mention, smaller. But you said you do have fry with her in the tank. She will aggressively protect the fry from any fish you put in. Tiger barbs would work well as dithers and to spread any aggression. Plus, they're durable, hardy fish.
