Default question

Will jack Dempsey's, green terror, Oscar, and other large American cichlids go together in a no-plant 150Gal tank with lots of hiding in the form of rock caves?

If so, how many of each species?

Thanks!!

if introduced together as youngsters you shouldnt really have that much difficulty with them, all though of course they are cichlids so there will definatley be terrotorial boundaries they adhere to, lots of hiding places and not overstocking should mean success with keeping them. Its hard to say how many to keep as it depends mainly on filtration, the better the filtration the more you can stock, but with consequences if you ever have power cuts or equipment failures. You got a big tank there all i can suggest is stock according to filtration, hope that helped.

Hi , thanks that is definatly informative. I intend on building my own wet/dry filter system and it is going to be large! I've got the plan to use an old but water tight 55gal tank as a basis. I live in Colorado and havent ever seen a powercut here but i do make it a habit to connect aquarium pumps to a heavy duty UPS which will keep them going for many hours if it were to happen.

Agreed with the raising of the chiclids. Overcrowding may also lead to higher stress and more fighting so keep the numbers realively low with those species. Be sure to keep that UPS out of the way of water drippage. I also hear you need to maintain the batteries and replace them every few years.
