Default OSCAR emergency

ok guys so i bought a baby albino tiger oscar 3 days ago and put him in my 10 gallon tank with my small rainbow shark. i plan on moving them in a few months to a 40 gallon tank im getting. anyway....in the store he was swimming all over the place met me at the glass and in this tank all he does is hide in teh rocks and lay on the floor of the tank. occasionally he will eat when i feed him then sometimes he just watches teh food and does nothing. is this normal? he will lay on the sand with his belly and then sometimes lay under the rock hiding place. it is worrying me as i just got him idk if he is stressed or just shy. sometimes he will watch me when i come to the tank and meet me but most of the time if anybody enters the room he takes off and hides under the rocks. that was his normal behavior but today he is now just hiding all the time and wont leave.

I hope that soon you are looking to get a 75 gal for the oscar as they can get up to 13 inches and a 40 gal won't be big enough. Also keep an eye on things as the rainbow shark may become dinner for him soon.

i am afraid whether your baby is not familiar with the current situation. Accoding to your decription, he will swim out of the rock without people. So maybe few days later,he will be normal.

yes i am looking to purchase a 55 gallon now instead of a 40...my aunt and uncle had an oscar in a 55 gallon and had a few schools of tetras also and with good maintenance (thanks to my uncle) the oscar lived very socially and happily for 9 years. i hope he is just being shy and nothing is wrong with him. he is swimming around the surface looking for food now but when i drop food in he runs away i guess i happened to get the most scared one ....as far as teh shark situation they show no aggression toward one another and actually sleep right by each other lol
