Default Oh my Oscar what a big mouth you have!!!

I just have a quick growth question about Oscars and, well, fish in general I guess. Will an Oscar, or other fish, continue to grow no matter what size tank they are in??

I'm wondering because I know when we had turtles they didn't grow bigger then their tank allowed them to move in comfortably.

So, I'm wondering if Oscars are the same or if they will out grow their surroundings.

Despite popular belief, fish grow past the size of their aquarium, or die trying. It's incredibly unhealthy to keep large fish in small tanks, simply because it stunts their growth. They can no more stop growing than we can stop blinking, and the cramped quarters can cause some pretty gnarly deformities as they grow. I just sold a koi the other day that had been brought in by a customer, who had him in a 30g pond. He was 1-1/2' in length, but he had started to grow out, rather than longer, so he had a very rotund appearance.

How do you determine the size to the tank size??
