Default Needing some help with Fire Red Apisto

Picked up a male and a female fire red apisto off of Aqua Bid.
Having some concerns.

The female, shes doing great.
I've put some meat on her and she's grown quite a bit since I've had her.
I've had these for 2, going on 3 weeks now.
The male was terrific the first week, i have noticed him hiding alot now.

Am having to luck under every piece of wood in my tank to make sure he
is still alive.

What do these fish like as far as water conditions go?
I've got zero nitrites and zero nitrates. Ammonia level is at zero.
Havent checked the PH in a couple of days.

Other tank mates-

4 juvenile angels
3 cardinals and 3 neons
9 glow light tetras
8 serpea tetras
4 cherry barbs
and 1 blue/orange gourami, he's about 2's long and fully grown.

Any suggestions?

What is your ph? and how did you acclimate them. Apistos like very soft water. I would email the seller and ask him what his ph is. I always do that before buying fish to make sure I can have a tank ready for them, or if they can be acclimated to a higher ph, which has to be done slowly.

Also what are you feeding them? I feed mine frozen bloodworms and brine shrimp and also a good quality flake food. I have a trio of triple red cacs that stay hidden all the time except for feeding.

Ph was about 7.2 earlier, im working on lowering it some more.
I feed flake food and thawed frozen bloodworms.

Not sure what the sellers ph was. Lowered heater temp from 88 to 76.
That might have been part of the problem.

Will see how he acts tomorrow.
Thanks for pitching in. I appreciate it

I use to feed shrimp pellets and mine would go crazy for them. I think the temp might have been your problem but cant say for sure. I assume you are the same Sean thats on MIAPG and if so how are your other Apistos doing and what tank are they in also what size tank are the fire reds in.

Yup, thats me. Sean on MIAPG

Other Apitos are doing fabulous
Ive got 13 babies in a 10 gallon and they are all loving it.
Im moving them to a 20L possibly today if i go buy it from Petco.

Back to the fire red guy, havent noticed much of a change in behavior.
Temp is around 78 right now. Im working to make things perfect.
