Default how much to feed oscars

hey i have 2 oscars that are 2.5 - 3 inches long, just babies really.. and was just wondering how much to feed them. i am currently feeding Hikari Cichlid Gold pellets of medium size... the thing is when i put a few in they only take 1 each and swim to the bottom and eat it and by the time they are through the others are all soft and seems like they dont want them so they float to the bottom.. so i feed 1 pellet for each every few hours.. probably 3 -4 a day is what they get then they also eat some tropical fish food when i put it in for my pleco and lobster... just wondering if this was enough for them

Sounds like alot of food for such small fish. I would only feed them what they will eat in a 2min time frame. These guys will eat more as they get bigger. Trust me on this one.

I had a big Oscar and he was about 5" in length and he only would eat a little each day. He did love live food alot. How long have you had these fish for?

Just try feeding them like that. Put in 2 pellets. They take 1 each and when they are done with them put in 2 more until they are finished eating them. Also, ask at the pet store if they have anything that will stay hard a little longer. I don't see anything wrong with feeding them as much as they want per feeding as long as they take all they are given.

They will eat until they die. We as people know when to stop. Also make sure you do at least 2 water changes a week. These fish are not very clean eaters and have a large biload. I would feed them every other day. These fish do not eat like this in the wild. I been keeping fresh water fish for over 40 years and I have made this mistake in the past on feeding my fish to much food. They will be just as happy with less food and a much cleaner home.
