Default Help with stocking/ compatible invertorscavenger

Well after everything in my tank died because i decided to get something from petsmart that infected everything (long story) i decided i want a cichlid tank. I have a 29 gal on a stand with a 20 high on the floor next to it and water is constantly flowing between the two so there are about 50 total gallons in the system. My tap water is already acidic so south american cichlid it is. Right now i have a black male convict with a pink female. It is just a matter of time until they mate, so i will probably not put any other fish in there. I was hoping to find a good invert or other scavenger for that tank that can live in the acidic water and not get killed or kill my fish.

Also, what do you think i should do with the 20 high. I was thinking about getting a juvenile electric blue jack dempsey and then i would just rehome it when it got too big. thanks!

How acid is the water? I'd try malaysian trumpet snails but they won't do so well if the water is really acid.
