i meant the specific of south american cichlids that are compatible with it and can live with them, and fit in a 55 gallon, would fire mouths be ok i heard they are not aggresive enough to stand up agianst convicts, i also heard giant danios are fast enough to act as dither fish for convicts, or could a jack dempsey live with them in the tank since i have enough filtration for 70 galons, thanks

2.CichlidsWorld - Apistogrammoides Pucallpaensis - T-Bar Dwarf Cichlid

and many more possible tankmates...

Well I have a CAE in with 2 female convicts. They usually harass eachother and ignore the CAE. Firemouths personalities’ can go either way. I had 1 that was super aggressive, and as soon as I turned the lights out, would actually take the fight to my breeding pair of cons. But then I had another one who got killed within 15 minutes by my male convict.

I was able to keep convicts together and with others until they spawned. Then it was there 55 gallon tank and all other fish were attacked. Didn't matter where those poor fish tried to hide. The convicts would hunt them down and attack.

I have seen the same thing. I saw a pair of convicts with a batch of fry that was in the same aquarium with larger aggressive American Cichlids and the larger cichlids were stuck in one tiny corner of the tank bunched up together. This is probably why a pair of convicts that are breeding should be given their own aquarium because their territory will just keep expanding until it engulfs the whole aquarium. Convicts can and will bully much larger and seemingly more aggressive fish, even to the point of killing them if given the right atmosphere which is why I strongly suggest isolating them if they are pairing up.
