Hi All
Im a bit puzzled. I currently have 3 convict females in my community tank. But i have noticed that my largest female has recently started to look like a male???? orange has disappeared and her dorsal fin is now extending past the caudal and her anal fin has also extended to almost same length as her caudal??? i know she was definatley female as she was part of a breeding pair until her mate passed away?? i thought only males had the extending fins?? any info would be much appreciated |

I've seen females with the pointed dorsal fins before, as well as colorful females. To my knowledge, Convicts don't change sex like, say...Clownfish.

There are actually several species that can change sex.

I actually heard that convicts if all grouped with females can take on the appearance of males in some ways but cannot breed and reproduce. Kindof like the dominant female in a group.
