Default Bolivian Rams.

I have the opportunity to aquire two of these fishes, and was wanting some info on them.I know I can google, but I would rather have first hand experience.

Would they be ok in a ten gallon until I can set up a larger tank?I think they are both males. If so,then would they be happier if I had them in a seperate tank each,or will they be ok together.

Here is the two fish.If someone can tell me if they are male or female, that would be great!

Hi Bev, I can't get the page to come up. But if it is 2 males I wouldn't put them in a 10 gal as they wouldn't have enough territory space for each. A 20 long would be a good size though.

If its male and female they could be in a 10 for the time it takes for a bigger tank to get ready, as long as there is plenty of hiding spaces.

Sorry,Susan,I thought the link would work.In any case these are not my pics, but the person whos getting rid of them. These are the two fish.He says they get along great which leads me to think a male and female, also by a site the caudal rays are more extended on one than the other as well.

In any case they will most likely go with my macs in the 29 for now.I think they will get along just fine in there. The macs are not aggressive but could hold their own against the rams if need be.

They look pretty good, looks to be both sexes. If you can get a 20 long I would add about 3 more.

Awesome, thanks! So it does seem to be male and female? They will be in the macs tank until I get one setup for them.Should be ok in there for a bit.

My 20 long is broken, and I am in the process of replacing the broken pane, which is hard without help, lol.but thats designated to some chanoides.Meanwhile,Ill be looking for a second 20 long.Would the pair be happy in a 20 long with just them?Reason I ask,is theres no local source for these fish.I am getting these because Ive not seen them anywhere before,so its almost a once in a lifetime offer.

They would be fine, in fact you can add some other type of fish with, I kept mine with endlers and they never bothered the adults but helped keep population a little lower as they would catch some of the fry.

Rams are great little fish any look amazing when the spawn. Water condition is the key to great success with these guys. Soft water with a low PH, weekly water changes, and the will live a good long time

You'll love the rams, I have 2 males in a 55gal. The Bolivian Ram is the easiest of the rams to take care of, and they are very peaceful fish. I have mine mixed in with guppy's, tetras & molly's. Also if you talk to a aquarium store outside of petco or petsmart, you will probably find some more rams.

They're hardy and fun to watch, but I have one and they get territorial at times with the silver dollars. Great fish though.
