Default Treating Ich

OK so I have an Ich problem in one of my tanks. I've only noticed white spots on two of the fish and it's not that many, mainly on the fins and just one or two spots. This was on Wednesday already. I took immediate action and put the temperature up slowly to 30 C / 88 F. I've also put some salt in the water about 1 tsp for every 10 liters of water and I'm doing water changes regularly. By Friday night most of the spots had dissapeared, obviously the parasite life cycle was going into it's next stage. I notice tonight that there are some more spots on one or two fish. I've done another small water change and gravel vacuum and added salt for the water I changed. As far as I know this is what I should be doing. Can any one give me any more input or advice?

Thanks.

This is exactly what you should be doing. I had an outbreak of ich in my first tank a few months ago, and upping the temp with added salt did the trick. Be advised that you will probably have to keep the tempereature high for at least two or three weeks; I kept mine up for a full month, just to be sure there were no parasites left. You will probably see a few spots for the next few days, but they'll disappear quickly. Hope your fish recover soon!

What you're doing should work. You can add more salt than what the label recommends when treating disease. You should go about 1wk beyond the last sign of ich, whatever timeframe that will be.

I like natural cures for things, but for ich I will never do anything other than Quick Cure. It has never taken more than 3-4 days to completely wipe it out in the 2-3 times I've had a few fish show up with it. As far as meds go, it is one of the best for treating small or large tanks....one bottle has lasted me over 18 months and I have treated 125g tanks. It has no ill-effects on anything in your tank.

Quick Cure, huh? I might look into that (sorry to butt in on the topic...)

I bought a bottle of Kordon Natural Cure as a backup for severe infections and as a preventative. Any thoughts on that?
