Default Tank water problem

Ok heres the scoop, my tank is 5 days old, 3 days into fish, I have treated the water properly and to the books to prepare it for the fish. I have a PH of 7.8, the guy at PETCO said it was a bit high, but another there said my minnows can handle it, as 3 days of PH down doses have not changed the water at all. I have no heater as the tank is a cold water "Forest brook" tank. The water the caught fish came from was a brook in my hometowns park, the water table there is notorious for having sulfur in it and the mud stinks in it. It had a PH of 3.5-3.8 or so. I did dump a bit of strained (through a paper towel) water from the creek into the tank so I could capture some of the natural algae and bacteria so I could give the fish a bit of their natural environment, mostly brown algae, also I got some small plants from it. I did about 2 days of Maracyn treatment because some of the fish looked a bit sickly and a weekend feeder as I did not have any proper food for them yet. Now the water has a whitish merky cloud swirling around in it, not a uniform cloudiness. Is it the Maracyn or weekend feeder that did this? I have Marineland Penguin 200 and a Aqua-tech 10 gal power filters on the tank, 30 gallons worth of filtration. The Penguin has a bio wheel and standard charcoal filter and the Aqua-tech has a filter insert that you can see through (I didn't know how else to describe it) with a cut piece of thick paper towel to add to the particulate filtration (replaced every two days). Sorry for the long winded paragraph I wanted to include all details. Whats going on?

I would say its the weekend feeder. feeding them grounded up flake food would be a good method at feeding them.

Hi and welcome to the forums.

I can see many problems and many more to come with this set up.

The tank isn't cycled. It can take anywhere from 2 weeks to 8 weeks to cycle a tank.
Do you have any test kits? If not get one. Liquid is better than strips and be prepared to test daily.
You are probably having high ammonia readings at the moment. Then next will be high nitrites readings which are both toxic to fish. You will need to do daily water changes of at least 50% using dechlorinated water to bring those levels down.

The weekend feeders are full of calcium and such that will cloud your water. Not a good idea to use those. Fish can go for a few days no food. Why are you using meds in the tank? Are the fish sick? if not quit using it.

5 Rosy Red Minnows
3 common Crayfish
Your way over stocked and will soon have a bunch of dead fish and crays. With the size tank you have, You don't need more than 15 fish total. That many fish right now I would expect it to be like swimming in a sewer. You need to decide what fish you want to keep and get rid of the rest which I imagine will be soon in those conditions.

Yes there is a bit of fin rot going on in the tank and a fish had a body fungus puff on his tail, hes was quarantined but died last night.

But ok I will do a water change and see how it affects the cloudiness.

I looked at my tank this morning and the water is crystal clear, it was the weekend feeder, it clouded the tank for 3 days after I took it out.

I do realize that crayfish are poop machines but they like to clean my filter grates and top layer of gravel, the Gambusia's keep the algae levels down on the walls and plants. But too bad there isn't an organism to keep the doodoo down. Now to be clear a lot most of the Gambusias are still fingerlings or younglings, in fact I think I only have a handful or less of adults.
This is more or less a spawning tank for a larger tank that I am going to build soon, I have a plan to use the Minnows and Gambusias for bait fish, maybe even open a bait shop someday, but that is just a thought.
