I have a 55 gallon tank and am just getting over an ich outbreak. It has been about 10 days I still have the temp turned up and have yet to clean the tank and tonight I saw about 10 tiny snails on the glass! What do I do? I heard they explode in population and take over the tank. I do not want snails!

If they are the little black ones, I usually immediately remove all the ones I can see, take out and rinse off all my plants in lukewarm running water, giving them a little rub down and prune job while they're out of the tank, then sink a piece of zucchini or cucumber in a small cup. The snails will be attracted to it, and you can easily remove them by pulling the cup out, cleaning it, and setting the trap again.
The most important part is to get on it early, clear out as many as you can, and try to rid the tank of any eggs by giving the plants a rinse. Once you start to get a handle on them, I'd also clean out the filter good and change that. It's worked for me. Chessie |

Chessie's idea will work - snails love zucchini! I made a snail trap out of a water bottle with the top of it inverted, so the snails go in, but can't get back out... they aren't too smart... you can google the trap, it's super easy to make.
Most snails won't explode in population unless there is a surplus of food, so make sure you aren't over feeding your tank. A few snails won't hurt... they eat algae and rotting plant matter. You can always pick out the few you see as well.
