Greetings, aquarist friends.
I have been posting about my three little glowlights lately. Well, now there are five! Yesterday, I gave them a few pieces of cooked pea, something I've never done before. The new fish with the more curved belly (that I'm assuming is a girl) promptly grabbed up more than she could swallow, leaving none for the other fish. Now, that same fish has a swollen belly and exhibits a strange behavior: she swims toward the top of the tank and sometimes falls all the way back down to the gravel. And then sometimes she just spends time in the middle depth, which is still unusually high for a glowlight. It's like she can't regulate her own depth. I hoped for a while that she might just be egg-laden or something, but I don't know how to distinguish that from illness. Does anyone know what these symptoms seem to suggest? She and her tankmate are both lively and still eating well. Could it be over-feeding? I only give them a few flakes once a day, but perhaps I shouldn't have fed them for a while after she ate so much of that pea yesterday. But aren't peas supposed to be the CURE for this type of thing, not cause it? ?????????? |

Did you remove the shell of the pea? I would say it would pass. The behavior sounds similar to how some of my fish get after eating peas when they gorge themselves. Once the pea digests they usually get better. Were you feeding peas as just part of a regular diet or for some other reason?
