4 days ago I got an outbreak of ICH,
Firstly, over a couple of hrs I upped the temp to 85f. The Rummy nosed tetras seem to be the most affected in terms of spots and the corys seem to be the least affected. All fish in the tank are showing signs of irritation though. Apart from one fish, they are feeding as normal. It looked to be getting worse so begrudgingly on Saturday I bought some medicine from the LFS containing Formalin and Malachite Green, which seems to be the most 'effective' according to research I did on the net. However, after dose 1 (saturday) they do not show signs of improvement. I need to dose again on Wednesday and have upped the temp to 86-88 in the hope I can start to beat it (I also hope the little corys can stand the high temps). Ive carried out a partial water change today too. Anything else I can be doing? Cheers Mike |

It will take a few days to show improvement. I wish meds did work that fast. Ich has about a 4-day cycle in temps above 75F and the med needs to catch them at the right point to kill them. Watch upping temp and using meds together...both things deplete oxygen levels and can kill your fish. Can be done, just may need to do something to aerate the tank a little more (add bubbler, position filter return above water level,..).

Ive got a 4" airstone and an u/gravel filter on airstone going 24/7 to aid 02 levels. Might position my Fluval 3+ above the w/l though might help a bit more. |
