Exclamation i think ive done something really terrible....advice please!!!!!!

went to the fish shop on sunday and got a blue acara, when the man was fishing him out he said hes got a badly nipped tail so ill give you money off, i said ok then and off i went. during floating him i took the bag out the water to undo it (they do it up so tight) and i dropped the bag on the floor!!!!! he looked ok so i let him go in the tank and he just sunk to the bottom and didnt swim much. the other fish started ganging up on him so i moved him to the guppy tank where he kinda just got blown about with the current, he can swim but when he does he rocks from side to side, but he bobs about most of the time till he settles and just sits there.....have i given him brain damage or something??? what can i do, i feel terrible!!!!!

Time.
He'll recover, or not, and there's not much to do. A fish will sometimes get stunned and come around - I've saved a lot of jumpers. You just have to do somethig very difficult when you want to DO the right thing - be patient and watch.

take him back, thats only 24 hours on a 30-40 dollar fish. The LFS should have never contemplated let alone go thru with the deal on a defunct fish, I apologize for the ill actions and bad decisions that your LFS has proven to use as a form of business.

Seriously take it back and if they request a water sample tell them to test theirs first.

Yeah he never should've even tried to sell you that fish. NEVER buy a fish "on sale". They know it may die soon and hope a nice person such as yourself will take the blame. And never buy a fish that's been nipped at period. Same thing will probably happen in your tank even if the fish aren't aggressive. I don't think dropping him hurt him any more than he already was.

he was the only one left and he was getting bullied by the other type of fish, i really hoped i could of saved him from the bullies and nurse him back to health but i guess he was pretty bad when i took him home.

the LFS should have quarantined him if he was getting picked on and they(and the customers) saw it.

I'll be the cynic - no pet store has space for that. Some stores will kill a fish that is being bullied to the point it scares off clientele, others will hope it sells before it gets killed by its tankmates. There's nothing in the behavioral responses of a territorial fish that prepares it to live with 20 of its kind in a 15 gallon tank under bright lights with no cover. The weakest fish in the group, as the pecking order goes down, will pay. Since the pecking order is constantly disrupted by sales, the levels of aggression will stay high.
The nipped fish is the bottom of the hierarchy. If a store brings in 20 acaras, does it need 20 tanks?
The easiest solution is for stores to stop carrying oscars, dempsies, blue acaras, green terrors and the like, but hobbyists want them.

A LFS that cares about their investment does have atleast 12 10g tanks in their back room. I got quite a few that I supply livestock to and out of those 12 shops in chicagoland not a single one does NOT have a QT tank, there is plenty of room for an LFS with a passion for the hobby. But benifit of the doubt say they didnt have them then that tank should have been QT'd as a whole(unless they are running all their tanks or atleast a section on the same filter, none of my LFS's do this though) I can easily QT a tank on a the fly with the over 100 tanks I have set up in my basement. That really is no excuse.

I am ONLY guessing that the fish were introduced at different times where as other inhabitants had their territory set up prior to the intro of said fish. An LFS has the ease of tax write off equipment use so them having no space is their issue and will be their own demise.
