Default Hair Algae Killed Lights and still have it!

This stuff has started to infest a few tanks I have, when I try to remove the darn stuff it seems that it makes it spread worse. I have killed the lights for a week and cut back food, still have the hair algae. Any suggestions???

Use a new toothbrush to remove as much as possible. Put the toothbrush into the algae and twirl it around. There is a few fish that will eat it, but that would depend on what is in the particullar tank. Florida flag fish love it.
