so this gunk appeared in my 20 tank. these are the largest clusters, but it covers the substrate. i siphoned sand and changed water yesterday.

major changes to tank: i have just recently removed a whole bunch of fish and added a betta.

fish removed: 8 black neon tetras, 4 glass catfish, 1 dwarf gourami
fish stocked: 3 cory cats, 1 clown pleco, 1 halfmoon betta.

H2O params tell me i need to do another water change, which i will do. NO3 is a bit high for a tank with so little fish. but any other advice will be great!

EW! Looks like a fungus to me. Is it accumulating gradually or seemingly overnight?

Do you have live plants in there or just the plastic?

I get some of this in my 40 but it comes from my driftwood which is still pretty new.It doesnt hurt anything its just ugly.Siphons up pretty easily.I believe it is a type of algae but am unsure tbh of what exactly it is.
