Hi everyone,
I have had a dramatic increase in the algae growing in my 30 gallon freshwater tank in the last few weeks. I have a "scrapper" that I am using but I was hoping that there might be some sort of chemical treatment that someone could suggest. It is a bit out of control. Thanks! All levels for nitrates etc are good. |

I can't and wont suggest a chemical to remove algae. Someone may pop in and name a few.
You need to look at why you have algae in the first place. To much light?? High levels of phosphate?? Over feeding can result in high levels of phosphate and algae thrives on it. I would suggest getting a test kit for it. The other thing is there are loads of types of algae. What sort do you have?? |

Avoid chemicals unless necessary. Most times, it's more trouble than it's worth. As harveya said, get a test kit, give us the readings and a description and/or picture of the algae. Chances are, there's something off with the tank that needs balancing. Also, how long has your tank been established? If it's a new tank, you might just have new tank syndrome.

Agreed with the above two posters.
What is your lighting and how long is it on for during the day? Do you use C02 and what is your Phosphate level?
