I've had my new pond set up for about a month now, and the pH is through the roof (8.6 kind of range) and I can't get it to come down!
I've been titrating it down as I can in little steps, but it doesn't ever seem to move. Now I have almost no carbonate hardness left when I test it, possibly because I've been adding pH down? Any insight would be appreciated. I'll add photos and test results tomorrow once its light out again. -B |

What's at the bottom of the pond (substrate)? Certain types of rock (or even sand, depending) can actually hike the pH up significantly, the same way adding leaves or peat moss can acidify the water.
