I would like to add a snail species to my brackish tank, it is kept at 1.008, has gravel substrate not sand. Would seawater snails be okay in a brackish tank? Any ideas very much appreciated. Thanks

olive nerite (Vitta usnea), the Virginia nerite (Neritina virginea), and the zebra nerite (Puperita pupa).
these snails can live in freshwater but do better in brackish to full seawater salinities. the only downside is that they lay eggs everywhere, and the eggs have to have salt water to hatch. i dont know if 1.008 is a high enough salinity for the eggs to hatch, but the snails themselves would thrive in it. Malayan livebearing snails (Melanoides tuberculata) also do well in brackish water, up to about 1.010 |
