A lot of LFS keep their brackish critters in fresh water, because usually it's only for a short time. Most light brackish animals will survive in FW, but not for too long. I would say definitely kepp it in brackish water. It will be a lot happier and live a lot longer. Then, you might be able to keep a figure 8 puffer in with it!

They will need brackish water, but since they have been kept in fresh for so long, it's best to slowly raise the salinity of the water, rather than just raise it all at once. If you do it all at once, you will probably shock the crabs and kill them.

thanks snapper, i was actually thinking about putting a puffer in with them, are they also brackish, i know they live in FW whilst young, and thrive in brackish when they are older, apperently when they need to change to brackish their bellies go grey. i was wondering if the puffer would eat the crab as at the moment if is about ------------- <----that big. (the line of ---). thanks again holly although you have posted that on 3 of my threads. lol.

You would probably be OK with a figure 8 puffer. They don't get giant, but they are big fin nippers. If you try it, just keep an eye on them. Also, make sure the crab isn't going after the puffer. Good luck!

Yeh my When I went to my LPC yesterday they had about about 8 little baby figure eights,
Do you think I should raise one of them in a seperate fresh water tank, then transfer them when they are used to some salt and are a bit older? I think they get to about 4cm (the puffers.

Do figure eights need to be together? And do they need teeth trrimmed ect? I only know quite abit about green spotted puffers, not figure eights.

Unless you have a big tank, I would stick with 1 or 2. They are big fin nippers. I don't think their beaks need to be trimmed, like with a Mbu.
