Default Starting to venture into the CORAL!!

ive had the tank up and running for over a year now and it's time to venture into some corals. Picked up some bright green mushrooms, a colt, and some zoo's today. LOVE IT! let me know what you think, be honest, I'd love some ideas for other corals or anything else you can think of!

can you give us some close ups of the corals..depending on the light you have you can have a choice of corals..any reef no matter how you decide to go can look absolutely amazing..i have done everything from zoanthid tanks to sps tanks..

also your water conditions will tell you alot about what you can keep sucessfully.

Zoanthids- they like a little what i call dirtier water..ie having nutreints in the water column

shroom and ricirdia- same here

SPS- like very clean water=almost no nutrients in the water column and your alk, calcium, and mag must remain constant. i have had some sps start to fail with when my alk went from 9 to just 11..

so do some reading figure out what you want to keep and setup for that

Happy Reefing

Rick

my shrooms started to split once I put them in my tank and my zooads glow orange under my moonlight ;) If you have a moonlight, your zooads and shrooms will look beautiful and give your tank a night life.

One thing i think needs to be brought up..when purchasing corals be sure they are open and in good health and are under the right spectrum that you will be viewing them at most of the time that will be their true color..corals will glow or pop out beautiful colors under more blue lighting spectrum, but thats your eyes not the coral changing colors..so if you go to a LFS and see a zoanthid popping out beautiful colors under night time lights ..when you get it home you will be disappointed when you put it under your normal lighting..that why most reefers out there perfer a higher K value of bulbs in their fixtures.ie 14K-20K..
