Default O.K. it's done

A few month back I started working on a hanging hood for one of my reef tanks and this is what I came up with.

At the time it was hanging from the ceiling but with all the wood and lighting the thing weighed almost 120lbs. And every day it it seemed like I would ask myself is this the day I would come home and it be on the floor with the tank. And another problem was all the wires going up from the tank to the hood. So that's where these two devices come in believe me this is not for the faint of heart together it will run you about $800.00

but my wall mounted power box went from this

Too this

Now on to the hangers there self

And this is the side view

It's made from 4x4's bolted together. In the beginning the tank was a good 3 feet from the wall but with this addition I was able to push it back some because I have no reason to get to the back of the tank anymore. I hope this will help someone who is looking for something different to do with retro fit lighting.

Well the way I handle my wife and I'm sure it works on Moms too You have to buy them something real nice and while they are opening it you sneak your stuff in. Then later on when they ask you about it you can say oh I had that but just set it up.

JW for those 4 powerstrips, did you plug them into an outlet or did you go into your wall and connect to the wire running through your wall?

Those are tied together two on each side with a cut off switch on each side then run together into one power cord. I can if I had to shut down the whole system from those two switches or shut off each strip. I only use the two in the middle right now, the one on the far right I turn on just to top the tank off. It's a power head and some tubing in a bucket of fresh water. So when it's time to top off I just flip the switch. And when it's time to do a water change I just put the power head into my salt water vat a few inches away.

Maybe for your wife, but mines onto that game already, I even bring her home a bottle of friggin' tea she doesn't say thanks she says " what'd you buy"...... I dont even get the later option.

This reminds me, she owes me 2 female dwarf cichlids, bolivian and german blue. I think I am gonna collect on that tonight!

Nice reefkeeper

how much does that hood weigh? it looks like its made from MDF?

I do have a set of current USA hanging arms, they can be retrofitted with eye bolts. The weight is the only concern. I cant use them brand new in box.
Current USA hanging arms NIB - eBay (item 150482054290 end time Aug-25-10 14:45:37 PDT)
just if you are interested, I bought them for $95 a few months back, they are still taped inside the box. as you can see by the pricing, im giving them away. I do believe those were the only things my wife picked out to buy when I built the 210. So if they are dictator(my wife) approved......

I need to suspend a DIY hood over my flat back hex tank, got any blueprints?

Yea mine know what to look for now... In the beginning what ever I bought I had to give her the same amount in cash. She thought that would slow me down, it didn't.

I just point at her purse collection and tell her "end of discussion".

is that the reefkeeper lite SL1?
I just got that for my 210. Its awesome. I do wish there was a way to dim the brightness though, it lights up the entire fish room at night.

That's what I had in place before the tees... And in this case less would not cut it. The plan is to put a 120gal tank in this spot 4x4x2 with this set up I don't have to change anything, take one tank out put the new one in it's place.

I looked into a hanger something like this, but the hood by itself weighs 120lbs So how did you end up doing the lights for the 210?

Aesthetics mainly but I keep some nocturnal only fish and it helps see them when I get a bout of insomnia, I like the green and blue better then my super white LED flashlight.
