Default My 55 & 125

Well, here's a quick thread on what I have. For now, I just have a 55 gallon setup, but I'm piecing together a 125 setup.

First up is my 55 gallon.
The whole tank, can't see the fishes really well, but we'll get to that

One of my corals that we lost. and the tang playing hide and seek.

Domino Damsel

The other coral that I lost, again, tang trying to run.

My Picasso trigger, yellow tang, and yellow tail tang.

My yellow tail damsel. It hides 99% of the time. Should have thought to feed them. (Back right corner, see him? LOL)

My 125 is a project. We actually just finished the stand this morning, and set the tank on it for now. My euroreef skimmer is sitting in the tank for now.

Picked this tank, stand, and hood up for a song on craigslist. Stand and hood needs some love.

This is after we started working, and thought to take a picture. The hood has already been taken apart at this point.

Picture of the hood. Looks like a regular shop 3 bulb florescent light. Can I buy the correct lighting bulbs for this, or do I have to get real lights right away? Also has two smaller florescent lights.

Picture of the stand. Structurally sound. 2x6 & 4x4 construction, and OSB sheeting. Then covered with plaster, spray on texture, then painted green.

After scraping off all the plaster & crap to get back to OSB.

Second angle

Now at this point it was decision time. Where to go. I was in a rush, and wanted to get my other live rock into the tank, so I skimped a lil bit. (Then come to find out two days ago, I should have just let the rock die out, and start fresh. Having the rock in buckets with no heat/circulation was a bad move) Hindsight, after doing it all. I should have taken the OSB off, and started over. BUT, I didn't!

So we went and bought some oak plywood. 1/4 inch for the sides, and 1/2 for the top, & face of the hood. (Hood hasn't been started beyond the pictures yet. Need to figure out what to do with lighting first.) And another craigslist steal, bought the doors for $5 a piece!

Here's the stand, finished this morning, brought into the house where it will eventually be setup, and tank placed on top. (She barely fit through the door)

The stain we used was a close match to the doors. The grain is the major difference!

180 gallon acrylic not setup yet. (Need a few more things before it gets filled with water.)
Tanks not setup, 10, 30, 55 with stand. Either 30 or the 55 will be the sump for the 180

doesn't the trigger destroy everything? Love triggers but some of them have very big personalities.

He's fine. Definitely big man on campus though. Moves the sand around, and he ends up putting sand on all the rocks. He's a messy eater, but the domino follows him around at feeding time if there are any large chunks, and he gets the small pieces that the trigger spits out.

My concern is the two tangs. I have to watch them at feeding time, they become aggressive when the food is almost gone. The guy I got the sailfin from, told me he had killed a yellow tang before. But this tang is bigger than the sailfin, so I think they might be ok.

Haha I was going to ask the same question! I love triggers, but I read I needed at least a 75g for them, and tank mates were hard to find. Perhaps I read wrong! Maybe i'll look into getting one for my new 75g once its set up.

e-zlight, nice set up! The stand turned out nicely! Keep us updated with pictures

Thanks guys, but I've changed gears a little, and had an unfortunate bad day with the 55.

The 125 is no longer the plan with that stand, I decided to setup my 180 acrylic instead on it. I have most everything for it, but I have a few more things to get before I'm ready to fill it. Still need lights(DIY LED), sand and a controller of some type. I want to automate this one as much as I can.

As for my 55, I had added a fish that liked to hide allot. I hadn't seen him in a while and it never caused a concern. Woke up one day, and I had a couple dead fish, and the rest looked horrible. They all had either ich or velvet. Unfortunately, I lost em all. :(

BUT, I left the tank fallow for 12 weeks, setup a 30 gallon QT, and started over. I now have a bunch of nass snails, 3 large ones snails (Don't remember what kind), probably 15-20 hermits, 3 emeralds, an arrow crab, diamond goby, green mandarin, added a clown not to long ago, and last weekend I added a anemone for the clown. Although I'm having issues with him. :(
