you caaan do a 10 gallon nano setup. You'll need some live sand, live rock, salt water, testing materials, hydrometer, heater, water pumps (powerheads) and that'll get you started. Everything else can wait as you get down the road.

you'll only be able to have probably 2 fish max. and they'd have to be smalll fish. blue/green chromis stay small, some wrasse like a muskorsky (sp?), some gobies (be sure to check, some do get larger), clown fish (get them when they're small). Theres a lot more out there so you'll just have to look around and see whats available and compatible.

In a ten gallon, you can have ocellaris clownfish, most gobies (popular choices are yellow watchman gobys, clown gobies, masked gobies, etc.), chromis are good, royal grammas are another popular choice, etc.

Small saltwater tanks can go bad fast so be careful. I recommend two small Damsels (I like yellow tails), two small Hermit Crabs (no red legs) and a small Snail. Run a good powerful external filter and a small Protien Skimmer. Have some small Coral Rocks for cover. Be very careful not to overfeed. The Crabs and Snail are there to pick up any bits of food left by your fish that might spoil and pollute your tank. Remember to replace evaporated water with tap water (to avoid salt buildup).

How about just having shrimp? There are lots of interesting shrimp and it would keep your bioload small.

No tap water. It has bad chlorine and stuff like that in it that will kill your tank inhabitants.
Invert only tanks are always interesting. It might just be me though, because I am mostly in it for the corals...well, I guess I really like the clownfish too, but whatever. |
