I have 2 platies (1 male, 1 female), neon tetras and a couple of glo fish. My female platy is acting strange. I did have a guppy and he was picking on her all of a sudden so I took the guppy back to the pet store thinking everyone would be happy. But now the female is staying to the top, eating but spitting it back out and her bottom half is really moving to stay afloat it appears to me. I don't see any white spots. The male is swimming all over just fine and staying close to her. Other fish are fine. Water is fine, tank is clean - looks like it could be in a pet store. I did have green water and I finally got that cleaned up. Is she dying or is this normal behavior?

I have a 10 gallon aquarium. 2 platies, 2 glo fish and 7 neons. Looks like there is plenty of room to me. The neons are always in the bottom half - they never go to the top and the glo fish and platy are in the top half. Oh and I have something that cleans the tank that stays on the bottom. I am a novice at this. It was my daughters and she is never home so I have adopted it
lucky me! I have been enjoying it - it looks great - but I don't like it when the fish die. |

yea, it's a little bit over-crowded for a 10gal.
the rule of thumb for freshwater is generally 1 inch of fish per gallon. just to be on the safe side you should really only have about 8 fish or so. hopefully if you keep up with your water maintenance all the fish will be okay. but to answer your question I think your platy is most likely stressed.
