Green Growth (Algae?) on Discus

I went to a LFS this afternoon and most of the discus there were covered with what appeared to be algae on the top part of their bodies.

Does anyone have an idea of what this green stuff is?

I'm not going to buy any discus from this particular shop, but if the fish were placed in a better cared for tank would the green come off?

were the sides of the tank green also?

I can't remember, but it did look like the green dust algae that normally grows on tank walls.

Exactly my question. I don't know if it was algae, that's just what it looked like.

Discus, at least the ones I have seen, have some very unusual and unique color markings. Could that have been all it was?
