the chinese algae eater MUST go if you are going to keep discus.
Angels and discus CAN cohabitate but most including myself keep them seperate as the angels tend to be a little more aggressive then the discus do, I have 18 discus and had 12 angels in with them in a 210g a year ago, that lasted MAYBE 3 weeks and I pulled the angels. Get an SAE or two(siamese algae eater not to be confused with the flying fox) as they wont eat the slimecoat off the angels and discus. I keep tetras native to where my wild discus come from in the aquarium. |

I have been working on getting the chinese algae eater out of the tank but the kids are attached to him we have had it since it was less then an inch long. Not sure what I want to do yet. I was thinking discus but maybe i will just add more angels.

CAE's are aggressive is my point, they do eat the long fins on fish and do chase them around when they get a wild hair under their scales.

I agree with the you on the cae being aggressive. Just trying to explain to a 6 and 7 year old they have to get ride of a healthy fish because it may become aggressive is hard for them to understand. When they have never seen him chase any other fish.

I agree with everyone that the CAE must go if you're going to keep discus. On another note, I currently have a school of angelfish with my discus. From what I have seen, if the discus are healthy they tend to pick on the angelfish more than the other way around. Size does not seem to be a determining factor; my smallest discus picks on angelfish that are much larger than he is. The angelfish mostly keep to themselves.

I have a 90 gallon with both Discus and angels and they get along just great. Just make sure that the discus are getting enough food. As my angels try to eat everything before the discus have a chance to eat.
I also have a CAE in the tank. even though he is very fast and slighty aggressive he is staying at this point. (2 inch) I removed the large gold algae eater a few weeks ago as he became super aggressive. (3 inch) Good Luck |
