Pelvicachromis pulcher (cribensis) beame my favorite fish. I bought a pair of young cribensis and added them to my 29 gallon community tank. They eagerly occupied a half coconut shell. They did not hurt other fish in the tank, but it seemed some tension was inevitable, because they chased other fish away from their home. I moved them in a 10 gallon tank equipped with anothe coconut shell cave, heater and power filter. The pair lives there in a completely tranquil environment. I like to watch their happiness every day, a picture of a happy married couple. They spawned and raised young successfully. This fish became my favorite. With a fry or without fry, they are always together. I feed them with grindals and some flakes. They eat small pieces of raw salmon, chicken and earth worms.

I am in Virginia. I found them occasionally in Petsmart. I never saw a lot of them, just two-three in a tank with other peacefgul cichlids. This is where I bought the first pair. However, after succesful breeding, the male died. Possibly, they were poorly fed while still in the store or, the male was too old, when I bought him. I bought another male a week later and now I have a pair, living in my tank almost a year. I learned that they are happies, if they live alone in a 10 gallons tank. Of course, they can live with other small fish in a bigger thank. I raised about 40 young cribensis in another ten gallon tank.

The tank they will be in is around 30gal, they will be sharing it with a pair of bristlenose.
I'm not American, i'm Australian. I have a few other shops to check out tomorrow to see if they have a female Kribensis i can get.
