As soon as a male or really HER male is ready. She will spawn again if the bond is unbroken.

My friend breeds discus. 100% water changes every day. 50% water changes every day AT LEAST or the fish will die. Discus babies need ABSOLUTE PRISTINE water. Bare bottom tanks for easier cleaning. If it has substrate you need to vacuum the substrate thoroughly.

If he forgets to do it. Then he must do only 50% then the next day do 100% agian. Reason is because fish cannot adapt to changing water quality. As long as the water changes are kept up, then the big water changes are fine.

He has bare bottom tank, a heater laying down on the floor so it wont fluctuate during the big water changes, and a sponge filter. Very extensive effort but it is very rewarding. He feeds all adult Discus with beef heart flakes, earthworm flakes, Spirulina Flakes. Discus babies with hatched Brine shrimp.

I know of another of another discus breeder in my local area because of a local forum. And his setup and maintenance is almost identical to my friends. They are both members of NADA (North America Discus Association).

Yes Yes Yes... feed them more protein. Add a little filtered rain water and blackwater extract raise the temperature to atleast 86 C . Feed small amounts often. 1/8 th. of no. of gallons of tank water change daily until you see the colouration and markings and lower stomach of female getting more oval. To hatch the eggs you need RO water so that sperm can permeate the eggs. I have a couple of pairs that breed monthly and a pair that breeds every 2 weeks and one pair that lays eggs every week in small batches...Get them use to a bare tank with big pieces to hide around but minimalize the number of pieces less to clean that way and for food particles to cling to. Give yourself all possible advantages to get eggs to wrigglers by making parents less skiddish. Stand in front of the tank for periods of time just move slowly and before you leave feed them a treat like freeze dried mysis shrimp and similar to a dog they can be trained or in the case of fish prepped for spawning by positive reinforcement of knowing they will be fed when you approach the tank so they eventually will follow you and will try to get your attention. I'm brand new to the site but have lots of experience with Discus and can honestly say they are not stupid fish and know a good thing when they find it. Yes they can be difficult but when your the prettiest and biggest and most graceful of the Aquarium you use it to your advantage.

Cheers and best of Luck with your Beauties.
