I have a new to me tank. Got it Tuesday night. Came with a Convict, an Oscar, a Tinfoil Barb and a Black Shark.
Black Shark died last night :(. I'm assuming most likely injuries from the move. I have no idea if he was acting strangely or not, since they are new to me. But this morning Tinfoil and Oscar seem to be acting weird though. Since the tank arrived they have been getting along pretty well. Even swimming together side by side with Oscar in the lead and Tinfoil following. But this morning Tinfoil is acting aggressively towards Oscar. He is swimming under him and looks like he is trying to control where Oscar goes and when he doesn't go. Doesn't seem to be biting him or anything. Oscar seems to be putting up with most of it but every now and then he turns around and opens his mouth and tries to bite at him. Tinfoil moves faster and gets away from him. Is this normal for these 2 and are they going to be okay or does someone need to go to solitary??

Also, Oscar this morning sometimes when Tinfoil would come near would start vibrating his tail. What does this mean?

Basically speaking if the oscar is full grown it should be 12 inches of fat fish. The tank is really to small for him alone let alone having other fish. Oscars can also be very territorial as they get older. I would look into getting him into at least a 75 gal tank. Also as they get older they don't tolerate to many other fish.

It's a used tank that I just got a few days ago. Was thinking the same thing but don't want to try for that yet. The guy I purchased it from had it set up this way. Moving them is stressful enough without all of a sudden moving him to a new tank too. Also, don't have a bigger one yet but think when the time comes I might opt for a larger one then 75gal. I would like to have sometimes about 24 inches wide. Wonder how hard it would be to get one custom made.....
