Default Should I buy?

I found on Craigslist a 55Gal. tank with stand for 80 OBO.

I still have yet to see pics/or get Dimensions from him for exact size. Should I go for this and possibly offer say 50 to barter? New to buying used tanks. Just seems like a good deal on my end. And tips as to what to check for or anything would be nice.

I would.

I got my 55 gallon that way with stand for 200 dollars on craigslist, so that's a good deal, even if the stand is a bad one. I cleaned it out and didn't use any of the items that came with it, but I'd say go take a look at it at the least.

Well, It's not a bad deal depending on if it's a homemade stand or not. I bout a 55g tank for $55 and paid $10 for a homemade stand the guy had. Get all the info you can about it, and offer him a little less. If you go over to look at it, ask to take it outside and fill it up with a hose to make sure it holds water. That's the biggest thing.

Well looking at it, you'll need a hood for it .. the stand is less than desirable to me visually, but I'm also not sure if it would support the weight of a full aquarium. But even then if it holds water 80 dollars or less is a good deal for the tank.

As a general rule of thumb though, anything I buy on craigslist I ask to come by and inspect it first. If everything looks good I seal the deal with a hand shake.

On any used tanks, I don't pay over a $1 a gallon. Here in Oklahoma you can buy new 50's for 99.00 at least once a month. Once they walk out of the store with them they are considered used.

On this tank that has held gerbals. suggestion is good to go see it and see if it holds water, if it does make an offer, they are easy to clean up with bleach to get rid of any urine in there. and if you want scrape of the inside seal and just run a new bead on it. Pretty easy job that way.

If he bought it with a screen on top or if the glass is kind of thin it won't be good in the long run holding water. Most tanks that are sold new as reptile tanks aren't good for aquariums.
