thats true about 30 years.. Maybe i just got some poorly made models.. but i refused to spend another couple of hundred dollars on some more canister filters. So i spent 50 dollars on a 450gph submersible pump and took the bioballs creamic ring and a 5 gallon homer bucket some pvc fitting and my ammonia level after 1 year were at .25mg/l and that is with 8 sharks in my tank whom i throw 3 pinches of food in a day and i had to clean the media once.and my water is crystal clear and i added another smaller 60gph on a return hose side so the water is then pump through the filter media again so the water is always being constantly scrubbed

Well Devil with that said I will say this. I bought a marineland filter on sale for 57.00 that was 109.00 filter. it broke. It had a lifetime warranty. They could not replace it due to it being discontinued. It pumped 500 GPH. Marineland does stand behind their products. They sent me a Canister Filter that is rated at 530 GPH to replace a HOB. At that time on line it sold for 299.95. I can't afford those prices being disabled and on a fixed income. I love the cheaper AquaTech filters for that reason. I have tried the Rena 55's and others. For the difference in price and filter media just not worth it. I have magnum 350's lots of different types.
I simply answered a question for someone and felt I was told I was stupid. With a 127 IQ and 4.0 grade average in college I beg to differ. I am far from stupid and don't like being treated as such. I take massive amounts of meds and don't feel good. I can still think.

I have been doing reverse flow UGF for 20+ years. Other than occasional water changes, never had to fuss with anything else. Water is pristine. Get yourself one of the AquaClears and the perforated drum thingy to protect the fish from the intake and you are good to go. I made a branching tube to go under the plates for even distribution of the pressure. Beats the heck out of dealing with the cannisters.
