i Need a good CANISTER FILTER! 135 gal. tank.
tank is, -135gallons -72in LONG (left 2 right) -24in TALL (top 2 bottom) -18in WIDE (front 2 back) as of now i have 1 marineland emperor 400, loaded with bio media, an blue floss. And a magnum 350 (used condition) I added a sponge filter the intake hose, mostly to help keep out heavy particles but it also holds bio bacteria. this set up is holding up an working. but at the bare minimum. i want to get a bigger canister filter that can handle the load a lot better.iam not sure what brands/filters are good...LOOKING 4 GOOD QUALITY BUT FOR A GOOD PRICE. expensive esent always the best, but iam willing 2 spend the cash for quality |

Fluval and Eheim are close in price however the eheims filter ALOT better then the fluvals do. What is your budget?
It took me a month to figure out fluval fx5 or eheim pro 3 2080, needless to say I have the eheim after filtering per dollar comparisons were run. |

you wont find a decent one for that price for that size aquarium. Your filter needs to pump a MINIMUM of 500gph keep that in mind also. Youll find a decent used one but brand new you are looking in the $250 starting range.
I run the eheim 3080 pro 3 on my 210 as well as a 400gph wet dry and a mag drive 9.5 hooked to big blue sediment micron filters and a 25w uv light. Yes I keep discus. |

A word of advice if you get an fx5, DO NOT USE THE MEDIA PADS, they clog up quick and need replacing every week or so. I only use ceramic rings in the center media baskets and the stock sponges that come in the side baskets. No clog problems since i stopped using them.

I use magnum 350's prior to this, just sold my fluval 303 but the eheim is easy, it holds 5g of water and the fuller it is when you close the lid on it the easier it is to start up, I have mine remotely located in the filter room and I often lose suction on the left inlet side but a simple little bit of suction gets it going right away, its in my hose layout not the filter itself.
The replacement fiber media is like 25 bucks for 1 or 2 coarse filters and 3 micron pads. has about 10 pounds of bio material inside as well. |

I had been considering an eheim 2075 for my 90, there has been a lot of discussion regarding SUNSUN canisters over HERE
may want to read through the whole thread, but it\s quite long. 3 stage 264 GPH $57.94 Shipped I might take the plunge a try the...4 stage $108.94 525 GPH Shipped. the eheim 2075 does 330 GPH and is 259.00 at foster and smith. Last edited by Brando : 03-08-2011 at 05:40 PM. |

soo as i said b4 (in this post) my tank is 135 gal. sum 1 told me my filter needs to move about 500 GPH. (EHEIM2080) but on foster an smith web site, it says that would b for up to a 320gal. tank.
Wouldent i want to get the EHEIM 2075 rated for a 160gal. tank? EHEIM 2080, -maximum aquarium size- 320 gal. -GPH- 450 -media capacity- 3.5 gal. EHEIM pro3 2075, -maximum aquarium size- 160 gal. -GPH- 330 -media capacity- 1.72 gal. |

The sun suns have great reviews, and are very affordable.i honestly dont think there is a such thing as over filtration.I have a magnum 350 on a 25 and a fx2 on a 29.Lots of filtration, but I know the water is perfect so its worth the piece of mind.

I agree, like i said i use ther fx5 on my 90, no filter pads just ceramic rings. I clean the filter out every 3 months or so. If u use filter pads be prepared to change them every 7 days as fuval instructs.

Eheim's pads last atleast a month.
I wouldnt run one of these filters without the pads, those pads add to the structure as in eheims case it seperates the ecosubstrat from the other 5 pounds of eco substrat in there. Eheim makes the best canister filters, hands down. You get what you pay for especially in this hobby. If you want size and longevity, be prepared to spend the cash. |

I guess its your experince with the filters. Ive had problems with eheims in the past my FX5 has been kicking for about 11 months right now and i ran into 0 problems. Ive actually heard of people removing the inside trays of the fx5 and filling the entire canister up with bio rings. The side sponges built into the trays are more than enough to remove solid waste from the water. My one complaint about the fx5 is that there is no spray bar made for it.

If you're really on a budget, you can always source a slightly used one off craigslist or eBay, and sometimes find some really good deals.
I'm running a Fluval 305 that I got with my 30 gallon tank, and I picked it all up for $150, which is less than the price of the filter brand new alone, plus I got a tank, stand, and a TON of other stuff with the purchase. The filter was less than a year old; the guy had the receipt of when he bought it. I've never been happier with a filter, but then again my past experience was limited to HOB units. If you do get a canister, consider running your HOB units along with it still though. You can't over-filter your tank ![]() |

Good choice. I have one on each of my 125s. There is no such thing as a budget when it comes to tanks that size. Try to go cheap on a big tank and you'll pay for it in the long run. Very easy to maintain also.

I have some filters for sale you may want to check out. EHEIM Classic 2217 canister filter. Opps, didn't see the date. I suppose you already got your filter. You'll be happy with EHEIM. They are the best.
