Default Nano sump?

Im wondering if there is a way to use a sump without drilling the tank, I ask since the tank is set up and had been for the past 2 months. I have a 10 gallon set up and I wanted to put a 5 gallon sump underneath with live sand live rocks and a light.
Thanks

You could, you would just have to pump the water from the tank into the sump, then pump it back up into the tank with a different pump from the sump. You would just have to make sure that the pump in the sump doesn't pump more than the pump in the tank puts into the sump, and visa versa, because if the pump in the tank is pumping more water into the sump than the pump in the sump can pump out, it is eventually going to flood. If the pump in the sump is pumping more than the pump in the tank, it will eventually drain the sump.
I hope my rambling helps...

get a hang on back overflow. Might as well do a 10 gallon sump also or maybe an Amiracle wet/dry. I did that and took out the bioballs and replaced them with live rock and put chato in there. A refugium of sorts but you can put filter floss at the top where the water drains in.

I got a ten gallon sump aquarium. Right now I have 40 lbs of live sand. It's not hooked up to the set up aquarium. Just set it up today. I was thinking about using an old hob filter that has never been used to do the overflow, drilling the bottom of the hob filter and piping it to the sump. The only thing I'm worried about is matching flow rates of the in and out. I'm a plumber and it still baffles me

Yeah, the HOB filter thing would work, then you wouldn't have to drill the tank.

New development: I bought a new better power head and plan on using the old one to pump water out and down to the sump. Now I need to figure out how to make an anti siphon,or one way valve, I have a cheesy 1/4" one way valve that came with an air pump for my fw tank. The dinky little one way helped stop the siphon but not 100%. I was hoping someone here has made an anti siphon before.
Thanks!,

Anti siphon should be as simple as putting a hole below the water line you wish to maintain. If the pump cuts off it will on siphon as far down as the hole remade then the air would take over stopping the siphon.

With the HOB filter drilled out you could possibly even use the drilled out base to add some other forms of filter media. And to match the flow rate of the power head pushing the water back to the tank you could possibly use a simple vavle adjust the open and close till the water level remains the same. However should the HOB Filter clog the powerhead will continue to pump and possibly overflow the main tank. But then you could I guess set up the powerhead on a float switch to shut it off if the water level reaches a certian level.

Thats a good idea mec. During my testing I put a t during in the hose and added the one way valve, didn't work then I removed the valve and put my finger over the line which would be the anti siphon, unplugged the power head, let it siphon then removed my finger which stopped the siphon

I cant upload pics from my phone. It's just going to be a 10 gallon with 40lbs of live sand and live rock which I dont have yet. Im a little worried about the first day of using it, since the sump will hold approx. 6 gallons, just all the new water. The pump will have a pretty low gph though
