Default Free pure water?

Are any of you using a solar distiller/solar still?
I'm putting one together to make pure water for my hydroponics, and wondered if anyone else attempted it. Providing that it works, I sure could have used it during the discus breeding and reef days when I clogged up so many r.o. membranes. :P

Pure water is very dangerous for fish. It has no minerals in it and has a very unstable ph. If used for fish its ph should be stabalized with peat moss for acid water and African cichlid salts for basic. Pure water exposed to the air becomes very acid because of disolved CO2. The equation is:
CO2 + H2O <=> H+ + HCO3-

Indeed it is. Please read my post. It is also worthless as a hydroponic nutrient .
However, if one adds marine salts to it or hydroponic nutrients to it, makes a far more intelligent choice than the well water which is loaded with metals and VOCs and has a beginning Ph of 8.
