My only source for superworms is the local big-box pet stores.. Same supplier in each.. 1/2 the containers show up 100% crispy critters.. the other half have as low at 60% of the stated count... Would love to order bulk from ya but.. how do I maintain the worms and crickets for the duration it would take to utilize my personal inventory for my 18" solo male bearded dragon? ANY and ALL advice will be appreciated. Bill in Va.

Hi Bill!
Taking care of Superworms and Crickets is very easy. For Crickets, Simply take either a 5 gallon bucket, or a 22 gallon rubbermaid container (my favorite) and either ventilate that one with aluminum screen for best conditions with the top on the container. Humidity is a big bummer to Crickets, and Superworms can live without it as well. Mold can accumulate in wet, dark conditions if you're not careful, so for that reason I always recommend cutting ventilation holes. If you don't want to bother and would rather have me build you one, I thought of offering them for sale already assembled. That way you dont have to bother and it's ready to go right out of the box. Anyways, after ventilating the box/bucket, put some egg crates in there so they aren't climbing all over each other, and have places to hide, then sprinkle a little Superworm bran or powdered gutload for them to eat, you can also feed both Superworms and Crickets fresh veggies left over from cooking. After that, you're all done. Just make sure to clean your container bi-weekly (every other week), and sweep out the dead crickets as they can lead to toxic fumes that will kill your other crickets quickly. For Superworms, simply buy some bran, get a 5 gallon bucket, empty the bran into the bucket, put in your superworms, and they'll start to burrow. If you'd like them to stay at that size, just leave them with the bran and they'll be fine, but if you'd like them to grow, feed them fresh veggies and they'll bulk up quickly. Just place the veggies on the bran, and they'll go to town. Superworms are by far the easiest feeder to take care of. Since you haven't had experience keeping 1000 or more crickets/superworms before, I would suggest you place an order for a cup or 2 of 100 crickets and a cup or 2 of 100 superworms and just start off with a smaller, more manageable number. Currently our 100 cricket cups are filled with 1/2" crickets, and the 100 superworm cups have assorted sizes of Superworms, from .75" to 2". If you order the cups, you may also like to place an order for Hornworms, as my Beardies LOVE these things. They're Teal or Green in color (your choice), get as big as 4", and are FILLED with calcium and much needed moisture for Dragons. They also completely take care of themselves, just keep them fed and empty their poop from the pods every few days and you've got an awesome feeder for your Dragons that they'll go nuts for. They're all available at www.SmallPetFeeders.com. Please let me know if I can be of anymore help :-) Thank you Aquarium Forum! If we find that a few of your are interested in our products, we'll be sponsoring your forum very soon. I hope we can make that so! Have a blessed day everyone, and Bill, my email is always open dave@smallpetfeeders.com Thanks again! -Dave SPF If you ahve |
