Default 20 gallon, long or tall?

Hi, I am adding an aquarium, and I always look at the tall ones. Pros and cons on getting a long or tall? Thanks so much!

It really depends on the fish you're planning to get tbh.

Thanks for writing, I was afraid that might be the answer. I just came upon a great labor day sale, I purchased the tall one, began setting it up this morning, took the paper off it, and found I bad mar in the glass. I am returning it. Now I am thinking do I want length or height. I haven't really thought fish!

I think that like to swim around more like schooling fish, or lengthier fish, would like the 20 gallon long. Fish with more height would prefer the 20 gallon high.

Tall tanks are good for tall fish like Angels and tall plants like Jungle Val. Long tanks are good for very active fish like Congo Tetras. Long tanks have a high surface to volume ratio (good O2 exchange).

Long tanks are also perfect for fish who dwell in shallower waters. They are easier to light, but a tall tank,IMO looks very nice with a showpiece fish and tall plants.
