Gold Coast Aquarium Society of South Florida - GCAS This forum is for all members and prospective members of the Society to stay in touch. The GCAS is a casual club of freshwater hobbyists of all experience levels who meet the 2nd Wednesday of each month from 7:30 to 9:30 PM. The meetings start with time to mingle, then a quick review of club business, usually followed by a presentation given by a club member or invited speaker, and finally an auction of fish, plants, and products. Usually we have coffee and cookies for refreshments.

Default Fish feeding while on vacation?

I have three yellow electric lab cichlids, about 1-1/2" each and growing, in a 50-gallon-ish power-filtered bowfront tank, and I am planning a 2-week vacation soon. If I just feed them before leaving & drop a 7-day feeder pyramid into the tank, that's still 7 days of no food.

Can this species survive for a week or two without food, or should I take some additional measures to keep them healthy during the upcoming vacation?

Default Re: Fish feeding while on vacation?

Update - I'm looking at buying an automatic fish feeder. The Eheim looks pretty good & includes a dehumidifying fan to keep the flakes dry, but it has no clamp and no ability to plug in (batteries only), about $35, the Petco is less expensive & has a clamp, but no dehumidifying fan and no ability to plug in (batteries only),, about $20. Does anyone have experience / recommendations to share, on these or any other models?
